Can I book an in person tour of the college? 

Yes. You can book a tour of the college with a member of our staff during business hours (Monday-Friday) using the button below:

I'm not 18 yet. Can I still apply to stay in college?

Yes, you can if you are a domestic student.  If you are an international student who is under 18 years old please contact the Dean of Students on [email protected] for further information.

Can I defer my offer of a room for a year (or two) if I am deferring my studies?

Yes, you can. Please advise us by emailing [email protected] as soon as possible. 

How long does it take for an application to be approved?

If you have uploaded all the documentation and had your chat with one of the admissions team it takes less than a week for your application to be approved, pending availability.  

Can my partner and/or friend & I book a twin room to save costs? 

All of our rooms are single occupancy. We do not offer any twin rooms.  

Can my friend stay overnight in my room with me if they are visiting?

Yes, but only for a night or two.

Can my friend or sibling stay in my room during the holidays? 

No, rooms are let to conference guests during the holidays and the income earned goes towards keeping the room cost as low as possible for students.

How much does it cost to stay in College?

Who offers cheap student accommodation near Macquarie University?

What sort of shared accommodation options are available near Macquarie University for students?

Residential student accommodation is the best value, safest, fun and most supportive shared accommodation option you will be able to find near Macquarie University and our fees are DLC are one of the lowest. Of course, if you are happy in a private share house with eight students to a room, that will be cheaper - but what will be the long-term cost to your education, health and stress levels? How do I pay my college fees?

You can pay your College accommodation fees in one of three ways:

1. Pay upfront for the whole Semester.

2. Pay by Edstart.

3. Pay by Debit Sucess if you are an international student.

Do I get any refund if I move out of the college before my contract finishes? 

No, if you decide to break your contract you will need to give 12 weeks' notice and forfeit your deposit.  If you are leaving because your exams have finished before the shift-out day, there is no refund for the days you are not here. 

Can I arrive at college before move-in day?

Yes, however, there will be a casual rate charged for each day prior to move-in day.

What if I need to cancel my application? 

If you cancel your application before the cut-off date (February 1 for Semester 1 arrivals) you are refunded what you have paid, minus $150.

If you cancel in February (for Semester 1 arrivals) but before move-in day, you are refunded what you have paid less $450.  If you cancel on or after move-in day, this is considered breaking your contract.

If you cancel because you did not receive an offer to study from Macquarie University, you will receive a full refund.

Can I live at college and cook my own food?

The College is fully catered and the fees include all meals.  However, there are three kitchenettes throughout College if you occasionally would like to cook a meal.

What do I need to bring with me? 

You should bring the following items with you:

  • decorations for your room
  • Blu-Tack to stick your decorations up (you must take all the decorations and Blu-Tack off your walls at the end of the year)
  • a doona/duvet and doona/duvet cover
  • a towel, shower caddy, hair dryer (straightener, etc, if you use these types of small appliances)
  • washing basket
  • as crockery and cutlery must stay in the Dining Hall, bring a coffee mug, glass, plate, bowl and cutlery to use in your room
  • nice clothes for special dinners 

Is there parking available at the college?

No. We have very limited parking at College which is reserved for staff, conference guests, and some of our student leaders.  Very reasonably priced University parking is available a short walk from College. 

Can my parents park in the carpark if they are visiting me? 

Generally, yes. Please ask at Reception.

Can I park in the carpark if I can't find a park in the surrounding area?

No, unfortunately, College is not able to offer parking to students other than to some student leaders. The University has very reasonably priced parking. 

Is there Wifi at college? 

Yes, unlimited wifi is provided by Macquarie University for all College students. For any issues with access or service please submit a One Help ticket through the Macquarie University portal. 

Can I work for the office to help pay my way? 

Unfortunately, we have very little casual work available for students.  

There is often work available at the University and the Macquarie Shopping Centre.

Can I smoke cigarettes at college? 

No. Dunmore Lang College and Macquarie University are both smoke-free environments. There is no smoking on campus including e-Cigarettes.

Can I choose my room?

Not if you are a first-year student.  We allocate rooms to reach a balance throughout College, based on a number of factors.

Returning students are able to request a floor preference and we try our best to allocate students their first choice.

How do I request a room change? 

You can submit a room change request form here. 

What if something is not working in my room?

You can submit a maintenance request here. 

How do I book my room during university breaks?

You will receive a form via email from the Admissions team about your move-out date.  Complete and return it by the due date to have the best chance of a room over the Recess break.

Can I store my things during the semester break?

If you will be returning to College the next Semester you can store a small quantity of your belongings in the store room on your current floor.  Your room will need to be completely vacated for any incoming occupant.

If you are vacating College (and not returning) you will need to take everything with you.
